RAPID CITY, S.D. — Monument Health Rapid City Hospital has again received an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, making it the only hospital in South Dakota to earn the top mark in the latest national ratings released Nov. 24.
The grade places Rapid City Hospital among the roughly 30 percent of hospitals nationwide that earn an “A.” Leapfrog, a national nonprofit watchdog organization, evaluates hospitals based on more than 30 measures related to errors, accidents, injuries, infections and the systems put in place to prevent them.
The recognition continues a streak of high performance for the hospital.
“This ‘A’ grade represents more than a letter, it reflects our unwavering commitment to the patients and families who trust us with their care,” said Jill Tice, Monument Health vice president of quality safety and risk management. “Being the only hospital in South Dakota to achieve this recognition is a testament to our physicians, nurses, and entire care team who work tirelessly every day to uphold the highest safety standards.”
Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, said the rating highlights the work happening inside the facility.
“Achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade reflects enormous dedication to patient safety,” Binder said. “I extend my congratulations to Monument Health Rapid City Hospital, its leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for creating a culture where patients come first.”
Brad Archer, M.D., Monument Health’s chief medical officer, said maintaining patient safety requires constant attention.
“Patient safety isn’t a goal we reach, it’s a standard we maintain every single day through rigorous protocols, continuous training, and a culture where every team member is empowered to speak up,” Archer said. “Earning this recognition year after year, and standing alone in our state with this achievement, reinforces that our commitment to protecting every patient is unwavering.”
Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety Grade is the only national ratings program focused exclusively on preventable medical harm. Grades are issued twice each year, in spring and fall.
