RAPID CITY, S.D. – The new Pete Lien & Sons Shooting Sports Complex will host its first major event later this month as Prairie Thunder, Inc. brings the 2025 CZ Area 3 USPSA Championship to Rapid City, Sept. 25-28.

The championship is expected to draw about 400 competitors from 29 states and Canada, making it one of the largest shooting sports events ever held in the Black Hills.

“I am incredibly excited to have this match in South Dakota for the first time,” said Andy Erickson, Area 3 director and co-match director. “There is no facility like this in the country that is in a vacation destination as great as the Black Hills. It will be a great weekend of fast shooting and great competition. Everyone is invited to come and see it.”

The event is open to the public. Vendors will be on site showcasing firearms and accessories from sponsors including CZ, Vortex, Silencer Central and Hunters HD Gold. A side event, “The Money Shot,” will allow spectators to take part for a chance to win a cash prize.

Prairie Thunder, Inc., a local nonprofit club affiliated with the United States Practical Shooting Association, is hosting the championship. The group relocated from the Spearfish Rifle and Trap Club to the new Pete Lien & Sons facility following its final match in Spearfish on Aug. 30.

Area 3 of the USPSA includes North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa and Missouri. The USPSA is a nonprofit organization that sanctions handgun matches nationwide.
