RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City Mayor Jason Salamun will join community and development officials Tuesday, Aug. 26, at 10 a.m. for the ribbon cutting of the Shepherd Hills Regional Water Booster Pump Station at 1851 E. Anamosa St.
The $5.1 million facility went online in April and delivers water to one of the city’s fastest-growing areas. The booster pump station, located near East Philadelphia and East Anamosa streets, is designed to support both current and future residential and commercial growth.
City officials said the project is part of Tax Increment District 84, which was created to help fund infrastructure improvements tied to development between East North Street and Elk Vale Road. Increment revenue from the district is also slated to support improvements to East Anamosa Street, North Valley Drive, Mickelson Drive and utility relocations.
“The Shepherd Hills Water Booster Pump Station can pump five million gallons of water per day,” City Senior Engineer Morgan Falcone said. “It was sized to ultimately serve more than 1,200 dwellings – approximately 3,000 people – along with commercial properties, and will provide service to a future water storage reservoir to supply operational, fire and emergency water.”
The Rapid City Council approved the construction contract in December 2023, awarding the project to RCS Construction, Inc.
At the ceremony, Salamun will also recognize Dale Ludens, a longtime engineering onsite representative. Ludens has worked with the State of South Dakota and the South Dakota National Guard and later served more than a decade as a consultant providing construction observation on multiple city water facility projects, including Shepherd Hills.
City staff will be available following the ribbon cutting to answer questions and provide brief tours of the facility.
