RAPID CITY, S.D. – Elevate Rapid City and the Black Hills Manufacturing Alliance are inviting area manufacturers to showcase their creativity in the inaugural Coolest Thing Made in the Black Hills competition.

The contest, announced Monday, is designed to highlight local manufacturing ahead of National Manufacturing Month in October. Submissions are open through Aug. 27, with the public voting on products in a bracket-style competition throughout September.

The winning product will be announced Oct. 2 during the Manufacturing and Trade Summit in Rapid City.

“The Coolest Thing Made in the Black Hills is a fun and engaging way to shine a spotlight on the talent, creativity, and craftsmanship of our local manufacturers,” said Kallie Ruland, Elevate Rapid City business development manager. “Whether it’s cutting-edge technology or time-honored artisan products, these creations help define our region’s identity and strengthen our economy.”

The region is home to more than 150 manufacturing establishments that employ more than 3,000 people, according to Elevate Rapid City. Organizers say the competition will not only highlight the products but also emphasize the importance of the industry to the Black Hills economy.

Voting will be open to the public, with supporters encouraged to help their favorite product advance to the next round. More details and the submission form are available at elevaterapidcity.com/coolest-thing.
