RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Edgemont YMCA, a branch of the YMCA of Rapid City, has received a $3,000 grant from FCSAmerica’s Working Here Fund to support food services for children attending its 2025 summer day camp.

The funding allowed the organization to serve over 450 free breakfasts and snacks throughout the five-week program, which ran from May 27 to June 26.

“We are a low-income community, and being able to provide a nutritious breakfast when the children arrive and a snack before they go home helps them to be successful and grow,” said Edgemont YMCA Director Kelsey Trotter. “It gives parents peace of mind knowing their child has been fed.”

The day camp is designed for students entering grades 1–6 and offers a broad mix of activities, including STEM and art projects, music, literacy enrichment, physical games, and field trips. Campers also explore cultural awareness and the YMCA’s core values of honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility.

The Edgemont branch was one of 97 organizations to receive a Working Here Fund grant in the first quarter of 2025. In total, FCSAmerica distributed more than $350,000 across its service region during the grant cycle ending March 31.

“We are proud to support organizations dedicated to addressing food and hunger issues in our local communities,” said Tonya Houska, regional vice president of customer experience at FCSAmerica’s Rapid City office.

The support aligns with FCSAmerica’s broader commitment to community development throughout western South Dakota and the Black Hills region.
