RAPID CITY, S.D. — Bluepeak is expanding its investment in South Dakota broadband infrastructure, announcing plans for an additional $150 million multi-year expansion to deliver fiber-to-the-home internet to more communities across the state.
The company said Tuesday it has already invested more than $95 million in South Dakota to build 100% fiber-to-the-home broadband serving about 55,000 residents and businesses in Rapid City, Sioux Falls, Vermillion and surrounding areas. The new investment will significantly expand that footprint, bringing Bluepeak’s total reach to more than 175,000 homes and businesses statewide.
The expansion includes overbuilding existing broadband infrastructure and extending next-generation fiber connectivity, marking one of the largest private network upgrades in the company’s history.
“We’re proud of the investments we’ve made to connect communities across South Dakota,” said Rich Fish, CEO of Bluepeak. “This next phase represents our continued commitment to delivering world-class broadband service and ensuring our customers have the connectivity they need to thrive in today’s digital world.”
Beyond local fiber builds, Bluepeak has also expanded its multi-state backbone network, increased capacity at major internet peering locations, upgraded regional and metro fiber systems, and launched a dedicated commercial services network.
When complete, the project is expected to deliver dramatically faster speeds and greater reliability for households and businesses in Rapid City, Sioux Falls and communities across the Black Hills and South Dakota. Company officials said the upgrades are designed to meet growing digital demands and reduce reliance on aging infrastructure.
Bluepeak’s investment extends beyond connectivity. The company supports cultural, entertainment and civic initiatives statewide, including Levitt at the Falls, the Sioux Falls Marathon, The Monument in Rapid City, USD Athletics and Sanford Children’s Hospital. Bluepeak also partners with chambers of commerce, city events and nonprofit organizations in Box Elder, Spearfish, Watertown and Yankton.
