Monument Health, DCI Mark One Year of Dialysis Partnership Supporting Western South Dakota

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Dec. 1, 2025 — Monument Health and Dialysis Clinic, Inc. are marking one year of a partnership aimed at strengthening access to dialysis care for patients across Rapid City, the Black Hills and western South Dakota.

The collaboration, launched in November 2024, supports dialysis operations at Monument Health’s East North Street clinic in Rapid City and its Yankee Street location in Spearfish. Monument Health nephrologists provide physician oversight while DCI manages day-to-day clinical operations.

The partnership’s impact became especially clear in October when the Hot Springs VA dialysis center abruptly closed because of utility issues. Within 24 hours, Monument Health and DCI absorbed all 17 displaced patients, ensuring uninterrupted access to life-sustaining treatments for veterans who rely on regular dialysis.

The clinics also delivered 57 treatments for visitors during June, July and August, supporting dialysis patients traveling through the Black Hills during peak tourism season.

Mark Schulte, Monument Health’s Vice President of Operations for the Rapid City market, said the first year reflects a coordinated commitment to reliable care for the region’s most vulnerable patients. “Our partnership with DCI reflects our unwavering commitment to providing quality care to every patient who needs it,” Schulte said.

Monument Health and DCI report progress in stabilizing staffing, reducing the need for temporary workers and expanding workforce development efforts. DCI, a not-for-profit organization operating more than 240 dialysis centers in 30 states and the U.S. Virgin Islands, shares Monument Health’s focus on patient-centered care.

Patients seeking dialysis services can contact the Monument Health Rapid City Dialysis Clinic at 605-755-6950 or the Monument Health Spearfish Dialysis Clinic at 605-722-8110.

Monument Health, headquartered in Rapid City, operates five hospitals and 40 clinics across western South Dakota and eastern Wyoming. The system serves 14 communities, employs more than 5,000 caregivers and is a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network.
