RAPID CITY, S.D. — Jay Murphy, Director of Campaign Development for Riverfront Broadcasting Black Hills, has been named the 2025 Broadcaster of the Year by the South Dakota Broadcasters Association (SDBA). The award was presented during the SDBA’s annual leadership conference in Sioux Falls.
The honor recognizes an individual broadcaster for their significant impact on their community and the industry. Murphy, a 40-year radio veteran and seven-year sales manager, has become a fixture in the Rapid City and Black Hills area for his community-focused campaigns and local leadership.
Murphy has helped lead numerous charitable and civic efforts, including the Oglala Pet Project campaign, Small Business Saturday, the St. Jude Radiothon, and the Bears for the Brave teddy bear drive—an initiative that collected more than 1,600 stuffed animals and blankets for local first responders to give to children during emergencies. He also spearheaded Bike Nights, one of the Black Hills’ largest annual summer gatherings.
“Jay’s amazing,” said SDBA President Steve Willard. “He’s received recognition in the past for his commercials and ad campaigns. It’s fitting that he’s getting recognition for his contribution to the Rapid community. He loves the Hills.”
The South Dakota Broadcasters Association represents radio and television stations across the state, providing advocacy, education, and support to South Dakota’s broadcasting professionals.
