Qué Pasa Cantina Confirms Closure; Questions Remain About Wobbly Bobby’s Future

Last Updated 1 hour ago

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A longtime fixture in downtown Rapid City’s dining scene has closed its doors for good. Qué Pasa Mexican Cantina, located at 502 Main St., announced its permanent closure this month with a farewell message on its website.

“Gracias for letting us share our flavors with you,” the statement reads. “We’ve loved every moment of serving you and your familia! Adios!”

The restaurant, known for its tequila bar and fresh tortillas, was a popular stop for both locals and visitors in the Black Hills. Its departure marks a loss for the downtown area, which has long leaned on Qué Pasa as one of its signature restaurants.

Wobbly Bobby’s Future Unclear

Just next door at 510 Main St., questions remain about the future of Wobbly Bobby Pub & Tap Room. The British-style pub, under the same ownership as Qué Pasa, continues to operate and advertise upcoming events on its website.

Online chatter, including posts on Reddit, has suggested that Wobbly Bobby may also be closing “for good.” However, no official statement has been made, and the business continues to list regular hours and promotions on its website.

Rumors of Italian Restaurant

While Qué Pasa’s closure is confirmed, the fate of its downtown building is less certain. Some community members have speculated that an Italian restaurant may move into the space. At this point, those discussions remain rumors only — no new tenant or opening date has been announced publicly.

Mexican Food Still Thriving in Rapid City

Despite Qué Pasa’s exit, Rapid City remains home to a wide variety of Mexican restaurants. At least a dozen establishments serve the community, including:

  • Albertano’s Mexican Food (multiple locations)
  • Puerto Vallarta Mexican Restaurant & Tequila Bar
  • El Sombrero Mexican Restaurant
  • Sabor A Mexico Restaurante
  • Ma Cualli
  • Mexico Tipico
  • Borrachos Mexican Diner
  • QDOBA Mexican Eats

These and others reflect the city’s strong demand for Mexican cuisine, even as one of downtown’s most visible cantinas shuts its doors.

A Changing Downtown

The possible back-to-back exits of Qué Pasa and Wobbly Bobby would leave two prominent vacancies in the heart of Main Street. Both restaurants have operated for years under local ownership tied to Bob Fuchs, according to business filings.

If Wobbly Bobby follows Qué Pasa into closure, downtown Rapid City will be without two long-standing dining options — though new opportunities could soon take their place
