RAPID CITY, S.D. — July 16, 2025 — Rapid City Regional Airport (RAP) reported a record-breaking second quarter, with 119,178 passengers boarding flights between April and June — a 13.3% increase compared to the same period last year. The figure marks the highest Q2 enplanement total in the airport’s history, signaling continued growth for air travel in the Black Hills region.
The surge in travelers underscores the airport’s growing role in South Dakota’s economy. “Every departing traveler represents dollars circulating through local businesses, jobs, and a regional economy with momentum,” said Patrick Dame, RAP’s executive director. “We appreciate everyone who chooses Rapid City Airport, and the people behind the scenes who keep it running smoothly.”
According to airport data, a total of 196,136 passengers boarded flights from RAP during the first half of 2025, up 11.5% from the same period in 2024. Total passenger traffic — including arrivals and departures — reached 399,005 through June, a year-over-year increase of 11.6%.
RAP remains the only full-service commercial airport serving western South Dakota and the greater Black Hills area. With connections to major U.S. cities and expanding seasonal service, the airport continues to enhance accessibility to one of the region’s most popular destinations.
