BOX ELDER, S.D. — June 11, 2025 —Midco has announced a $470,000 investment to expand its high-speed fiber network in Box Elder, bringing symmetrical 1-gigabit internet speeds—and even faster multi-gigabit options—to homes and businesses, including those on Ellsworth Air Force Base.
This local initiative is part of the company’s larger $500 million “Fiber Forward” campaign, which aims to deliver 10-gigabit capabilities across the region using next-generation fiber technology.
“Download and upload speeds of one Gbps allow our Box Elder and Ellsworth Air Force Base customers to work, stream, game, communicate and entertain with ease,” said Midco President and COO Ben Dold. “Thanks to these investments in our network, Midco customers can operate more devices with more reliability—all at incredible multi-gigabit speeds powered by fiber.”
The upgraded service includes access to a 2 Gbps download / 1 Gbps upload package for customers needing even faster speeds.
Midco reports 99.9% fiber network uptime and claims the fastest internet speeds in Pennington and Meade Counties, according to data from Ookla® Speedtest®.
The Box Elder upgrades are part of a broader, four-year plan to bring symmetrical 1 Gbps speeds to 95% of Midco’s service area. Dold emphasized the company’s ongoing commitment to the Black Hills region.
